1986 December 24

Full Stop Law

In an effort to reduce the number of trials of middle and lower-ranking officers of the bodies involved in the repression, President Raúl Alfonsín enacted the Full Stop Law (Act No. 23,492) on December 24, 1986, whereby the expiration of the criminal action for those who were not summoned to testify after sixty days was to expire, except for cases involving children misappropriation. On December 20, before discussions in Congress began, massive social protests invaded the streets of the city of Buenos Aires in repudiation of the halt to judicial investigations.
