The oral and public trial for Case No. 13/84, which tried the first three military Juntas, began on April 22, 1985. On December 9, a verdict was reached, convicting five out of the nine officers accused. These officers were Jorge Rafael Videla and Emilio Massera (life confinement), Roberto Viola (17 years in prison), Armando Lambruschini (8 years of imprisonment), and Orlando Agosti (prison sentence to 4 and a half years). It also ordered the prosecution of senior officers and others who were accountable for the facts thus proven. This judicial process has marked a landmark worldwide as the former dictators accused of massive crimes were tried by national and ordinary courts under their own laws.
