Campo de Mayo was one of the largest clandestine detention centers in the country. It was run by the Army. The first trial concerning what happened there focused on the unlawful imprisonment, torture, and disappearance of Iris Pereyra and her fifteen-year-old son, Floreal Avellaneda. Both were abducted on April 15, 1976. Iris was released in mid-1978 but Floreal was one of the victims of a death flight. His corpse was found on May 14, 1976, on the coast of Montevideo, Uruguay. Five military personnel —including Santiago Omar Riveros, commander of the 4th Army Corps— and a Buenos Aires police officer were convicted for these crimes.
